The Metron Consortium are an advanced, reclusive polity in the Alpha Quadrant, and known for only intervening when necessary. Their first recorded contact with the United Federation of Planets was in 2267,when they halted a confrontation between the USS Enterprise and the Gorn Hegemony and opted to test their captains in a controlled duel.
Species and Culture
Very little is known about the Metron Consortium. During first contact, they appeared in the form of a humanoid, youthful, almost godlike male. At this time, they described humanity as having promise for the future, even if seen as inferior.
The Metrons do not interfere in matters that do not directly impact them, and consider themselves observers rather than participants. If they do interfere, it’s often in the form of judgement based on mercy, restraint and growth, rather than political or strategic alignment.
Technology
As early as 2267, the Metrons owned technology that was capable of instant stellar transportation, and disabled several ships by cutting off power to engines and weapons.
In Play
- As Starfleet’s policy is to not venture into their territory, encounters will occur by accident or in active breach of policy.
- The Metrons are the perfect plot element involving moral testing and distant judges. Their intervention can resolve conflict on variable terms rather than force.
- Discovering the edge of Metron space can shift a story’s tone from tactical conflict to philosophical evaluation.
- Encounters should be rare, and feel momentous, unsettling, and unlike dealing with any other Alpha Quadrant powers
