Starbase 11 is a Anchorage-class Federation starbase currently assigned to Fourth Fleet's Task Force 47. She is currently under the command of Commander Mira Novak.
Starbase 11 History
Starbase 11 was originally commissioned in 2255, orbiting a planet designated M-11 during the initial exploratory efforts of the Federation during the first half of the 2200s. Starbase 11 originally served as an administrative and judicial hub for Starfleet throughout the sector, as well as serving as a focal point for several high-profile events during the 2260s including the court-martial of Captain James T. Kirk and the unauthorized mission of Commander Spock to deliver Fleet Captain Christopher Pike to Talos IV.
As the decades progressed, so too did Starbase 11 as both it and the colony it supported grew and changed. As the Federation continued to expand, Starbase 11 shifted from being an administrative and judicial hub into a support station for the colony below. When the original station was decommissioned in 2290, it was replaced by the more modern Regula-class starbase that had seen great success across the still growing Federation. The new structure allowed Starfleet to support the rapidly growing colony below, while still allowing it to serve as a repair stop for most Starfleet vessels in service at the time, with the notable exception of the larger Constitution Refits and Excelsior-class vessels being produced.
Unlike most stations of its type, Starbase 11 rapidly grew obsolete as the M-11 colony morphed from a small, semi-self sustaining world to a fully independent agricultural and industrial complex. The increase in ships entering the system and goods needing to be passed between the small station drove Starfleet to completely replace the station just shy of 50 years after it was commission, well before its intended life cycle had elapsed. Construction began on a newer and much larger Anchorage-class station in 2331, and the station was fully operational and ready for habitation in the first quarter of 2335.
The increase in both docking ports and repair facilities of the new Anchorage-class station allowed Starbase 11 to support a much wider array of ships than it had previously, though it still lags behind the largest of stations in that regard. Despite this, Starbase 11 saw a noticeable increase in visitation from both civilian and Starfleet vessels in the decades leading up to the Dominion War. And even during the war itself, Starbase 11 still managed to provide valuable support to Federation efforts as a staging ground and supply point for vessels being recalled from the frontier toward the front lines of the conflict.
Post-Dominion War visitation slowed to much more normal levels for the station, refocusing the station's efforts to supporting the M-11 colony and the management of local affairs in the Talos star cluster.
