Starbase 117

Starbase 117 is a Federation Copernicus-class station located in the Astarlon system in the Alpha Quadrant. While located deep within Federation territory, the rimward stretches of the UFP are vast and under-explored. SB-117 is charged with overseeing and supporting survey operations of unexplored star systems across the rimward reaches, and is routinely where records from such surveys are sent for further study by its vast scientific laboratories. From there, Starfleet scientists of SB-117 make recommendations for follow-up research missions as-needed.

SB-117 is thus a bustling hive of scientific research, with visitors ranging from Starfleet ships and their crews passing by on their way to survey operations, to civilian scientists staying for months at a time on key studies.
