Starbase 2 is a Federation Canopus-class starbase located in the Ivtara system in the Beta Quadrant, some thirty light-years from the Klingon-Federation border. Historically, SB-2 was a strategic bulwark from which to oversee Starfleet’s defensive duties against the aggressions of the Klingon Empire. Closer relations with the Empire and the construction of the new, Canopus-class station, have changed its missions.
Today, SB-2 is a hub of commerce and transport between the border and the Federation core worlds, with most trade towards Sol, Vulcan, or Andoria flowing through it. Over the past decade, it has also become famous for its centres of learning and research in the fields of anthropology and archaeology.
