History
Tasked with providing humanitarian aid and border protection along the former DMZ, her configurable payloads are a distinct advantage in tagging any threat that proves to much for her to handle alone, including interlopers from the Gamma Quadrant via the Bajoran Wormhole.
Bridge
Situated on Deck - 1, the bridge of the Echelon-class light cruiser is almost identical to that of her sister class, the Sagan-class light explorer. Polished floor surfaces, metalized walls, modern LCARS displays and holographic interfaces are standard features common to the post 2390's school of starship design. With less emphasis on the cutting edge technology gleaned from the Borg, the USS Astute's bridge has a more specialized focus on mission operations and engineering support missions.
